Mariella Hudson is an Irish-Peruvian writer, director and actor. She wrote the screenplay for the 90-second film HEADSPACE, which was selected for Encounters Film Festival and Manchester Film Festival, and she is a former Film London EAN Connect mentee (2023). She loves working with actors and mentoring writers, running regular screenwriting workshops both independently and as a freelance tutor for organisations such as Underscore Studios. Her background includes directing for independent theatre and working as a freelance videographer for clients including The British Museum. She recently directed her first narrative short, LOVE EWE, a dark comedy about a Yorkshire woman whose plan to propose goes awry when she becomes convinced a sheep is following her.
Her work gravitates towards the magical realist, the cinematic, the cross-cultural and the understated. Her inspirations include Aki Kaurismäki, Shane Meadows, Claudia Llosa, David Lean, Werner Herzog, Nicholas Roeg, Shohei Imamura, Krszystof KieÅ›lowski and Andrei Tarkovsky among others.

She has an MFA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, passed with Distinction. In addition to her creative work, she works as a script reader for a number of well-respected production companies including Playground Entertainment, Samson Films and Newgrange Pictures.
